The Zeiss LSM 980 Airyscan is a high-end microscope combining a point scanning confocal with a second-generation Airyscan detector.
The scanning unit is equipped with the high-sensitivity version of Zeiss 36-channel spectral detector, together with one regular and one cooled PMT. The BIG external module includes two additional GASP detectors optimized for infrared dyes (up to 900 nm)..
The Airyscan resolution improvement (120 nm in xy and 370 nm in z) comes from a combination of a GASP detector array and regular deconvolution. 4x and 8x line multiplexing are available for faster acquisition. Other techniques offer better resolution, but Zeiss’ Airyscan is popular because it works with any fluorescent dye and only requires a high-quality #1.5 coverglass and proper mounting media (Prolong Diamond recommended).
Laser lines: 405, 445, 488, 514, 561, 639 and 730* nm (*infra-red not available on Airyscan detector).
Internal detectors: PMT, 34 channel GAsP spectral, cooled PMT.
External detectors: twin infra-red GASP detectors in BIG, 34 channel GASP Airyscan array.
Emission filters: spectral loop on internal detectors (380-740 um continuous), conventional emission filters on infrared BIG and Airyscan detector.
Objectives: 10x/0.45 Plan Apochromat, 20x/0.8 Plan Apochromat, 40x/1.4 Achroplan (o), 63x/1.4 Plan-Apochromat (o). Additional special-purpose objectives are available on request.
Live cells: temperature, humidity and CO2 control, DIC imaging, autofocus device
Multi-location and tiles fully supported (no scanfield rotation in Zen Blue).
