Diane Gumina, Ph.D., joined PPB as a program officer in 2024. She previously served her Society for Research in Child Development/American Association for the Advancement of Science Federal Executive Branch policy fellowship with PPB.
Prior to joining NICHD, Dr. Gumina worked for the University of Colorado for 11 years in both basic laboratory and clinical research positions that focused on better understanding the cellular mechanisms driving common pregnancy-associated complications.
Dr. Gumina graduated from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus with a doctorate in cell biology, stem cells, and development. She studied the cellular mechanisms of the reduced fetoplacental vascular development associated with severe fetal growth restriction. She also earned an M.S. in cellular and developmental biology from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and a B.A. in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
