Randy Capps, Ph.D., became a program director for PDB in 2024. His portfolio includes migration and immigration, access to health and social services, health disparities, the impact of environmental disasters and climate change on health, and PDB’s training programs and population dynamics infrastructure centers. In addition to his branch duties, he serves on NIH’s Climate Change and Health Steering Committee, Environmental Justice Working Group, and Transformative Health Disparities Consortium, as well as the federal interagency Health and Housing Group.
Before Dr. Capps came to NICHD, he was a scientific review officer in the Division of Neuroscience, Development, and Aging at the NIH Center for Scientific Review. Prior to joining NIH, he worked at the Urban Institute and Migration Policy Institute, where he conducted research into U.S. and global immigration policies, immigrant education and labor-force integration, the well-being of children in immigrant families, and the access of immigrants and other diverse populations to health and social services across the United States.
Dr. Capps received his master’s degree in public affairs and his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Texas at Austin, receiving support for the latter degree from an NICHD-funded T32 training grant. He holds a B.A. in political science from Williams College in Massachusetts.
