Zhaoxia Ren, M.D., Ph.D., is a program officer at the Obstetric and Pediatric Pharmacology and Therapeutics Branch (OPPTB), NICHD. She joined the OPPTB as a medical officer in May 2008 and has served as the program scientist for the Obstetric-Fetal Pharmacology Research Centers (previously known as the Obstetric-Fetal Pharmacology Research Units Network) since 2009. She is also in charge of the branch’s pharmacogenomics, pharmacoepidemiology, and translational research programs.
Prior to joining NICHD, Dr. Ren was a program director at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), where she managed the NIAAA’s genetics portfolio including the Collaborative Studies on Genetics of Alcoholism project. Dr. Ren received her M.D. in China and her Ph.D. in cellular and molecular biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She completed her postdoctoral training in human genetics at the National Eye Institute. She has published numerous scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals in the areas of genetics, genomics, clinical pharmacology, and clinical trials in children and pregnant women.
