Program Officer
Aritro Sen, Ph.D., joined FIB as a program officer in July 2024. He manages the portfolio of grants in the Reproductive Medicine and Infertility program, which encompasses research on the etiology and pathophysiology of diseases and disorders that cause human infertility and impaired fecundity. He also manages the Clinical Reproductive Scientist Training Program and the Reproductive Scientist Development Program.
Prior to joining NIH, Dr. Sen worked in industry as director and therapeutic area head of reproductive medicine and maternal health for Ferring Pharmaceuticals. Later, he co-founded the biotech startup Maipl Therapeutics and served as its chief scientific officer. He also served as a faculty member in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Rochester School of Medicine in New York and then in the Reproductive and Developmental Sciences Program at Michigan State University.
Dr. Sen earned his M.S. in biochemistry from the University of Calcutta in India and his Ph.D. in cell and molecular biology from West Virginia University. He completed his postdoctoral training in reproductive biology at Michigan State University and in molecular endocrinology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He has led several research programs in women’s health funded by NIH, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, industry, and foundation grants; served as an editorial board member and associate editor for several journals; and served on NIH study sections and foundation/industry grant panels.
