Kutlesic named director of NICHD global health office

Vesna Kutlesic, Ph.D., became Director of the NICHD’s Office of Global Health on December 30, 2012.

Dr. Kutlesic was named to this position following two previous appointments as Acting Associate Director of the office, from July 2011 to January 2012 and from September 2012 until assuming the directorship. In her current position, Dr. Kutlesic leads the office’s work to coordinate and support the NICHD’s global health mission and activities.

Dr. Kutlesic, who is also an adjunct faculty member at the Center for Global Health in the School of Public Health at George Washington University, in Washington, D.C., previously served as Special Assistant to the NIH Director for four years. In that role, she earned the 2008 NIH Director’s Award for her work on the “Revitalizing Peer Review” initiative. Prior to arriving at NIH, Dr. Kutlesic was awarded a Fulbright Visiting Professorship at the University of Belgrade while based at the Psychiatry Department at Case Western Reserve University. She has also served on the Executive Board of the Society for Child and Family Policy and Practice within the American Psychological Association and has consulted for UNICEF on child health and behavioral services in Eastern Europe.
