Because of its short- and long-term effects, bullying—being aggressive toward another person in a physical, verbal, or relational manner—can play an important role in development. While bullying is typically thought of as a problem that occurs at school, bullying also may occur electronically (“cyberbullying”) and can take place anywhere, including at home, work, or school.
Among the many bullying studies supported and conducted by NICHD are studies on the prevalence of bullying, both in the United States and abroad, and the effects of bullying and being bullied on a person’s health and well-being.
