Marlene Mireles was named director of the Office of Acquisitions (OA) in April 2023, after serving as acting director since July 2021. She is responsible for planning and directing all OA operations as well as managing the research and development, station support, and simplified acquisition contracting programs for NICHD, the John E. Fogarty International Center for Advanced Study in the Health Sciences, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, and the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities. Outside of her acting director duties, she also is chief of NICHD’s Acquisition Services Branch, where she manages two sections, attending mainly to the station support needs of OA’s institute and center partners.
Ms. Mireles began her NIH career in 1992 as an administrative assistant with the National Institute of General Medical Sciences. She then moved to NIDDK’s OA, where she served first as a procurement technician and then as station support branch chief, before coming to NICHD in 2008. Over the course of her contracting career, Ms. Mireles has awarded millions of dollars in support of the NIH mission. She received the NIH Directors Award in 2007, the NICHD Merit Award in 2016, and the NICHD Collaborative Award in 2017.
Ms. Mireles earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., where she graduated with honors.
