Training for NICHD Clinical Investigators
Mandatory Training
NICHD follows policies set by NIH’s Office of Human Subjects Research Protections (OHSRP). Visit the OHSRP site to access training records, requirements, frequently asked questions, and required courses.
As part of its continuing education for clinical investigators, NICHD also requires completion of the following additional Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) courses:
- Unanticipated Problems and Reporting Requirements in Biomedical Research
- Vulnerable Subjects: Research Involving Children
- Vulnerable Subjects: Research Involving Pregnant Women, Fetuses, and Neonates
These courses are available through the CITI Training portal on the NIH CITI Training page (login required).
Additional Training
Additional CITI courses are optional unless specifically requested by the Institutional Review Board or the NICHD OCD. Principal investigators may also elect to require their research staff to take specific CITI courses when relevant to the content of their research.
Investigators new to NICHD must take additional courses including research ethics, consent, and technology training courses. Please visit the New Investigator Orientation page (login required) for more information.
