Chi-Tso (Joseph) Chiu, Ph.D., became a scientific review officer (SRO) for SRB in 2022. He manages the Biobehavioral and Behavioral Sciences (CHHD-H) study section, which assesses grant applications for career transition awards and small grants. Additionally, he acts as the designated federal officer for numerous NICHD Special Emphasis Panel peer review meetings. He possesses a blend of expertise spanning cellular and molecular biology, pharmacology, neuroscience, and behavioral assessment.
Prior to joining NICHD, Dr. Chiu spent 7 years as a contractor SRO at the NIH Center for Scientific Review. He assisted and managed initial scientific review activities for multiple integrated review groups across two divisions. His previous research endeavors included driving initiatives in translational research focused on cardiovascular and respiratory diseases and psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. Additionally, he coordinated research collaborations among different groups, both within and outside of NIH. Throughout his career, he has contributed to numerous research and review articles in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at various national and international conferences.
Dr. Chiu earned his Ph.D. in pharmacology and toxicology from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He then completed a postdoctoral training and served as a research fellow in the Division of Intramural Research Programs at the NIH National Institute of Mental Health.
