Purpose

D&I seeks to accelerate the process of applying evidence-based interventions into healthcare and public health settings by bridging research, practice, and policy. OGH convened a panel of D&I experts to give an overview of D&I as a research methodology and to present examples of the benefits of D&I research, particularly for studying NICHD populations of interest. The panel highlighted the following two NICHD-funded studies:

  • The first study examined a multi-level nutrition intervention targeting childhood obesity in low-income preschools in Los Angeles County, California, with predominantly Latinx populations.
  • The second study evaluated the effectiveness of improving health system capacity and government health policies in Mozambique to deliver evidence-based interventions shortly after birth to reduce neonatal mortality.

Additionally, the panel shared D&I training opportunities for both NIH staff and researchers.
