Purpose

The goal of this Summit is to call attention to the physical activity and nutrition needs of those with intellectual, developmental, and/or physical disabilities.

Day One will bring together national disability stakeholders from K–12 schools, universities, and community-based organizations to share best practices for implementation of the I Can Do It, You Can Do It! Program. The day will also include a Call to Action for stakeholders to commit to inclusion in physical activity, nutrition, and obesity programs and policies. Day One of the Summit will be live webcast from the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. A link to the webcast will be provided to registrants.

The research forum on day two will examine knowledge gaps and research opportunities in diet, physical activity, motivation, and outcomes that will improve the health and life quality of all children with disabilities. The Research Forum will feature panel presentations from subject matter experts and will include time for questions and answers. The participants will include subject matter experts, researchers, and scientists across the fields of disability, health, physical activity, and nutrition, as well as representatives of organizations in support of improving the health and quality of life of individuals with disabilities through research.
