Purpose
The NICHD and Spelman College are co-sponsoring the Wellness Revolution Summit 2014: Power Up! to will bring together leading researchers, innovative thinkers, and women's health and wellness advocates to share data on nutrition, physical activity, and overall wellness. The Spelman Wellness Revolution aims to improve the health and wellness of members of the community at this historically black college for women by addressing the disproportionately high rates of obesity, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes among African Americans, particularly among women.
Summit goals include:
- Providing practical solutions for eating better, moving more and sleeping well to achieve optimal health
- Connecting students to health researchers through internships and other educational opportunities to foster interest in scientific careers
- Educating partners about the Wellness Revolution as a program to model for college women on other campuses.
