Location:
Masur Auditorium, NIH Clinical Center (Building 10), NIH Main Campus, Bethesda, Maryland
Purpose:
The NICHD was established on October 17, 1962, at the request of President John F. Kennedy and with support from Congress, to “…encourage imaginative research into the complex processes of human development from conception to old age.” Since then, the Institute has achieved and contributed to an impressive array of basic, clinical, and translational research advances within its mission.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Institute’s founding, the NICHD is holding a scientific colloquium to revisit its research past, report on its research present, and look toward its research future. Speakers will address many topics within the NICHD’s mission, including: developmental biology and origins of health and disease; pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes; human growth, behavior, development, and learning; health throughout the lifespan; contraception and reproductive health; intellectual and developmental disabilities; training the next generation of researchers; and improving the scientific enterprise.
