This 60-page scientific report describes the research and research training supported by the NICHD Developmental Biology, Genetics, and Teratology Branch as of 2006. The Branch portfolio includes studies of the genetics of birth defects, basic mechanisms of normal and abnormal development, and the development of model systems for research, as well as training and education issues associated with increasing the research workforce in these areas and the diversity of its expertise. The report also includes considerations for the future research directions for the Branch. As a result of a reorganization in 2012, the current name of this organizational unit is the Developmental Biology and Structural Variation Branch.
