Signore named to new extramural division leadership position

Caroline Signore, M.D., M.P.H., has been named Deputy Director of the Division of Extramural Research (DER), a newly created post, which she will assume January 27.

Dr. Signore, a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist, has been a medical officer in the NICHD’s Pregnancy and Perinatology Branch since 2006.  There, she has served as a program scientist for the  Prenatal Alcohol and SIDS and Stillbirth (PASS) Network, the Early Adult Reduction of weight through LifestYle intervention (EARLY) External Web Site Policy clinical trial consortium and the Lifestyle Interventions For Expectant Moms (LIFE-Moms) External Web Site Policy clinical trial consortium.

In her new role, she will assist DER Director Catherine Y. Spong, M.D. in overseeing the Institute’s extramural research program.

Dr. Signore earned her medical degree from the University of Florida and her M.P.H. degree from George Washington University. Dr. Signore came to the NICHD in 2003 as a summer student in the Division of Epidemiology, Statistics, and Prevention Research (DESPR) in 2003. In 2004, she began a postdoctoral fellowhip in DESPR, focusing on the identification of genetic, nutritional and biochemical risk factors for birth defects and other pregnancy complications.

Dr. Signore has a special interest in promoting research and raising awareness of the reproductive health care needs of women with disabilities.
