Women's Health: NICHD Research Information

Women’s health is an important focus for NICHD research. As a key part of the mission of the NICHD, women’s health research focuses on the health issues that are unique to women and that affect women differently. The NICHD’s research portfolio on women’s health includes research conducted and supported to advance knowledge of gynecological health issues; allow every couple the opportunity to conceive if they desire; improve pregnancy outcomes; and understand the environmental, behavioral, and social factors that shape women’s health. The NICHD also supports professional training and education for future scientists in the various research areas of women’s health.
