Pregnant women and infants are at high risk for iron deficiency. This study seeks to determine the developmental/behavioral effects of preventing iron deficiency through iron supplementation during pregnancy and the first 9 months of life. Results of the study will determine the best window to prevent the effects of iron deficiency and whether breastfed infants benefit from iron supplementation before the age of 6 months.
