Small Research Grant
- Supports small investigator-initiated research projects that can be carried out in a short period of time with limited resources on a topic within the Areas of Research Supported by NICHD.
- Examples include pilot or feasibility studies; secondary analysis of existing data; small, self-contained research projects; development of research methodology and/or development of new research technology.

Conference Grant
- Provides limited support for scientific meetings, workshops, symposia, and conferences within the Areas of Research Supported by NICHD.
- Applicants must obtain NICHD's approval prior to submission (see announcement).
- In the cover letter, applicants should request secondary assignments from other NIH Institutes and Centers with programmatic interest in the conference.
- In general, the NICHD awards up to $6,000 for grants with primary assignment to NICHD and up to $3,000 for grants with secondary assignment to NICHD.

- Provides limited support for exploratory/developmental research projects that introduce novel scientific ideas, model systems, tools, agents, targets, and/or technologies.
- High-risk/high-payoff research is encouraged.
- Preliminary data is helpful but not required.

- Provides research infrastructure support.
- The NICHD does not accept unsolicited R24 applications at this time.

Education Project
- Provides support for short-term research education programs to improve the knowledge and skills of a broad-based community of biomedical and behavioral researchers conducting research on reproductive, developmental, behavioral, social, and rehabilitative processes that determine the health and well-being of newborns, infants, children, adults, families, and populations.

NIH Clinical Trial Planning Grant Program
- R34s support the planning of Phase III clinical trials, including activities such as the establishment of the research team, the development of tools for data management, and the finalization of the protocol.
- This mechanism is not intended to support collection of preliminary data or conduct of pilot studies.

- Similar to R13s but involve NICHD program staff in a substantial scientific and management role.
- Provides limited support for scientific meetings, workshops, symposia, and conferences within Areas of Research Supported by NICHD.

- In general, the NICHD awards up to $6,000 for grants with primary assignment to NICHD and up to $3,000 for grants with secondary assignment to NICHD.
- Only U.S. institutions or organizations, including an established scientific or professional society, are eligible to apply.
