Volunteers for Medical Engineering, Inc. (VME) is a non-profit organization in Baltimore with the mission of applying technology to the solution of challenges faced by individuals with disabilities.
VME will display examples of the unique assistive devices that have been designed by our volunteer engineers. Examples range from the wheelchair accessible seats installed in Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, to an infrared sensor computer "keyboard" activated by an infrared emitter on a puff stick (for a man with quadriplegia as a result of Multiple Sclerosis), to a wheelchair-mounted sensor to detect obstacles and monitor a path for individuals with vision impairments who also use wheelchairs.
